Track info for 7th and 8th graders

Track info for 7th and 8th graders:

--Shoes
For practice, it is best to have a pair of trainers that are made for running.
If you have normal to flat feet, we recommend Asics in the 1100 or 2200 series. For high arches Nike is OK (like an Air Pegasus). I can look at your runners foot and make a suggestion if they ask. These shoes can be found at The Runner in Ada or ordered from places like Holabird Sports online if you are certain of the size needed.

For meets, spikes are the best and can be ordered online for a pretty low price.
I would check places like Eastbay.com and FirsttotheFinish.com. No matter what the running event is, we suggest only buying distance spikes for JH runners. Sprint spikes have a very limited use. I would look for “specials” in the $15-$20 range.

--Practices
We meet on Mon, Tues, and Thurs. afternoons from 3-4pm (as long as the weather is OK, and there is not a HS meet on that day). If there is a problem with transportation, perhaps your student could make arrangements to go home with a friend, or find a ride with a HS runner who you may know. If nothing can be worked out feel free to contact me. JH students will be expected to be at the practices to earn a uniform.

--Meets
A schedule will be handed out soon. On meet days it would be good for each athlete to bring some food/drink since concession food is not ideal. Suggestions are peanut butter sandwich, Gatorade, water, banana, etc. Sunscreen is also highly recommended. Also being prepared for cold or hot weather on the same day is a good idea in Oklahoma.

--Info concerning meets, pictures, etc. will be posted on our blog at:
